Shanties, sea songs and maritime folk music

Foghorn: One Englishman and two Norwegians who have been singing together for years. Maritime music was our first port of call - shanties from the days of sail, whaling songs, songs of adventure and homesickness. From the Arctic Ocean to the South Pacific. We sing mostly in English, and sometimes in Norwegian

You'll hear us at shanty festivals both in Norway and further afield. We also perform at folk clubs, street festivals and schools as well as at private events - and we never fail to get a reaction. This is captivating music that has an immediate appeal to a wide audience; music that is both anchored in a tradition and eternally fresh. Powerful harmonies and rhythmic drive are our speciality.

From carols to cowboys and cotton pickers:

You can't keep a good song down, is what we say. In recent years we've extended our repertoire beyond the purely maritime. We've come ashore, you might say. In our home town Fredrikstad we have had an annual concert of Christmas carols from the British folk tradition. We've started looking into some of the powerful vocal traditions on the other side of the Atlantic , songs of hope and hard labour that have a lot in common with shanties. You haven't heard the last of us!
